Today I experimented with sports photography for my track team. I decided to bring my camera to the meet and see what I can get while I’m there. I tried my best to get as many events as possible but with over 100 athletes on my team, it was impossible to get everyone while still helping during the meet. I am fairly new to sports photography and I learned that my camera or lenses are not necessarily built for sports with high speed.

Out of the 859 photos I’ve taken at the track meet only 139 came out “decent”.

Most came out blurry or too distorted from the low light conditions. My lenses do not focus fast enough to capture subjects moving fast. A great sign I got to invest in more glass and upgrade from the gear I have now. I also did not utilize a monopod for the event to stabilize the camera and have a better chance at capturing the subject in focus than using my camera handheld.

Definitely not my best work but I learned a lot from this experience! All Photos from the Event are available to my team through the google photos link below for free. If photos are posted online please tag my Instagram @9th.BlackFang so others can notice my work. Tips are also greatly appreciated. Enjoy!
